Day 6

Husband had a rough day at work so couldn't steal away to my sit spot in the woods.  Sat on the deck at twilight tonight, after the kids were asleep.

Practiced the sense meditation during most of my sit.  I'm rusty on it, so each sense took a few minutes to really awaken:

Heard several different chirping insects: tzit-tzit-tzit-tzit-tzit-tzit from the garden, whir-ee, whir-ee, whir-ee, whir-ee from beyond the neighbors' yard, and a constant, high-pitched chirp from all directions.  Every so often picked up a gurgly frog noise, but it was swallowed up too quickly by the chirps and the wash of cars passing our house that I didn't have a hope to identify it.

Visually, I noted the gray/blue glowing of the twilight sky, the black silhouette of the horizon line along the treetops, the brightness of Lyra (?) overhead amidst the blue, the paleness of the deck railing against the dark yard.

Smelled the neighbor's laundry detergent on the air drifting through the yard from her dryer vent, the scent of my jacket.

Felt the smoothness of the deck floor against my feet, the weight of my body on my heels, the rippled woodgrain of the deck railing under my fingers, the weight of my light jacket as it hung on my shoulders.  Every so often felt the tickle of a mosquito on the hair on my calves, and brushed them away.

As I turned to go inside, a bright, clear shooting star flew east to west across the sky.  Looking forward to the Geminid showers this Saturday through Monday!
